The Xiaomi Redmi 17 4G is the entry-level model in Xiaomi’s 2026 Redmi 17 global lineup, announced in August 2026 alongside the Redmi 17 5G. It is the 4G variant designed for markets and buyers who prioritise battery endurance, large screen size and the Dynamic RGB Light notification system over 5G connectivity — trading the 5G modem for a lower retail price while retaining the same physical design language, the same 7500mAh Silicon-Carbon battery and the same flat-edge aesthetic as the 5G sibling.
The MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra (12nm, octa-core 2×2.0GHz Cortex-A75 + 6×1.8GHz Cortex-A55, Mali-G52 MC2 GPU) is a performance-oriented entry-level chipset from MediaTek’s G-series gaming line — designed to deliver responsive everyday performance and adequate frame rates in casual gaming without the premium pricing of Snapdragon mid-range chips. It handles social media, streaming, photography and light gaming comfortably. The available RAM configurations are 4GB and 6GB LPDDR4X. Internal storage uses eMMC 5.1 with a shared microSDXC slot for expansion.
The 6.9-inch IPS LCD runs at HD+ 720×1600 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 825 nits in High Brightness Mode — a larger panel than most competitors at this price tier. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and animation even at HD+ resolution, and Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front. The screen-to-body ratio is approximately 86.2%. One important distinction from the Redmi Note 17 4G: the Redmi 17 4G uses an IPS LCD rather than AMOLED — it will not produce the deep blacks and power-efficient dark-mode display of AMOLED, but it delivers consistent colour across wide viewing angles without the potential for burn-in, and brightness uniformity on large panels is typically more even on IPS than on budget AMOLED implementations.
The Dynamic RGB Light on the rear of the phone is Xiaomi’s notification and gaming lighting system — a customisable RGB LED strip on the back cover that pulses, breathes or reacts to incoming notifications, calls, music rhythm and in-game events. It is the Redmi 17’s most visually distinctive design element and can be controlled and customised through HyperOS settings.
The 50MP f/1.8 main camera (PDAF) delivers fast autofocus and solid daylight photography with the dual rear camera layout. Video records at 1080p 30fps. The 8MP f/2.1 front camera handles selfies and video calls at 1080p. The 7500mAh Silicon-Carbon battery supports full charge in approximately 96 minutes via 45W wired charging, with the additional 22.5W reverse wired charging allowing the phone to act as a power bank for other devices. The Redmi 17 4G includes stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack — the headphone jack being notably absent on the Redmi Note 17 4G, making the Redmi 17 4G the better choice for users who prefer wired audio. FM radio included. NFC (market-dependent). Bluetooth 5.4. Wi-Fi 5 dual-band. GPS + GLONASS + Galileo + BDS. Side-mounted fingerprint sensor. IP64 dust and water splash protection. USB Type-C 2.0. Android 16 with HyperOS 3. Dimensions 170.1×78.4×8.8mm. Weight 232g.
