The SB580's dedicated centre channel receives the dialogue signal from the decoded audio track and reproduces it from a driver positioned directly in front of the viewer at the screen's centre axis, providing the intelligibility and locational precision that makes dialogue consistently clear regardless of the scene's ambient volume, the listening level selected or the acoustic properties of the room. The 6.5-inch (165mm) wireless subwoofer delivers 200 watts of deep bass extension down to 40Hz — producing the physical bass sensation that explosions, music bass lines, engine sounds and cinematic low-frequency effects require to feel real, without any cable running from the TV to the subwoofer. The automatic wireless connection between soundbar and subwoofer activates on power-up without pairing or configuration.
Virtual Dolby Atmos® processes the Dolby Atmos® audio metadata encoded in streaming content, Blu-ray and broadcast signals to create a height and width sense of immersion from the SB580's physical speaker array — simulating the sound-from-above effect of a full Atmos® speaker installation without requiring ceiling or upward-firing speakers. HDMI eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) provides the highest-quality digital audio connection between the SB580 and any HDMI eARC-equipped TV — carrying True HD Dolby Atmos® losslessly in a single cable that also handles TV power and volume control integration, so the TV remote controls the soundbar volume without any separate programming. The second HDMI input accepts direct connection from a gaming console, media player, laptop or any HDMI source when the TV's own HDMI switching is bypassed. The optical digital input provides an alternative connection for TVs or sources without HDMI. Bluetooth 5.3 streams music wirelessly from any phone, tablet or laptop when the TV is off — turning the SB580 into a standalone music speaker with full 440-watt output.
