The GoPro HERO13 Black in Forest Green is a limited edition colourway of GoPro’s 2024 flagship action camera — hardware-identical to the standard Black model, released to offer the same industry-leading image quality and feature set in a more distinctive outdoor-ready finish. It was released on September 23, 2024. The HERO13 Black represents a focused refinement of the HERO12 Black rather than a ground-up redesign: the GP2 processor, 1/1.9" sensor and 5.3K video capability return from the previous generation, with the meaningful upgrades concentrated in battery life, slow-motion recording, HDR video capability and the new HB-Series interchangeable lens system.

The GP2 processor and 1/1.9" CMOS sensor (27.6 megapixels active, 5599×4927 pixels, 8:7 native aspect ratio) together support the full suite of GoPro video modes simultaneously with stabilization, colour processing and HDR rendering, without requiring mode switching for the core shooting scenarios. The 8:7 aspect ratio is GoPro’s multi-aspect sensor — capturing more vertical and horizontal information than a standard 16:9 or 4:3 sensor, so footage can be cropped to 16:9 widescreen, 9:16 vertical (for social platforms), 4:3 standard, or kept in 8:7 full-frame without losing quality, all from a single recording.

Video modes: 5.3K (16:9 and 8:7) at up to 60fps; 4K at up to 120fps; 2.7K at up to 240fps; 1080p at up to 240fps; 720p at up to 400fps. The 400fps at 720p is the headline new slow-motion mode for HERO13 — delivering 8× slow-motion playback at standard 50fps timelines for dramatic slo-mo sequences. Burst Slow Motion is a new shooting mode that records a burst of slow-motion footage triggered by a single button press, capturing the peak moment without needing to pre-record the entire sequence. HDR video (HLG-HDR) is available in 5.3K (16:9) and 4K (8:7) at 30/25/24fps, rendering more shadow and highlight detail than standard video. 10-bit colour depth with GP-Log encoding is available for colour-graded post-production workflows — delivering greater colour depth, smoother gradations and a wider dynamic range for professional editing pipelines. HyperSmooth 6.0 is GoPro’s sixth-generation in-camera electronic stabilization system — producing gimbal-smooth video without a physical gimbal, using the GP2 processor to apply real-time stabilization corrections across pitch, yaw and roll axes. HyperSmooth 6.0 works across all video modes and aspect ratios including vertical 9:16.

The HB-Series Lens System is the major new accessory ecosystem introduced with the HERO13 Black — a set of interchangeable, waterproof, scratch-resistant glass lenses that attach to the front of the camera and are automatically detected by the HERO13, which shifts into a matching Auto Cinematic preset when an HB lens is installed: Ultra Wide (155°), Wide (Max Lens equivalent), Macro (close-up focus), Anamorphic (2.7:1 cinematic ratio), and ND filter lenses. The lenses are waterproof when installed and do not require the protective housing to be removed for use in water.

Battery: The new 1900mAh Enduro Battery is 10% larger than the 1720mAh battery in HERO12 and features a redesigned connector specific to HERO13 — it is not backward compatible with older GoPro cameras, and older batteries are not compatible with HERO13. Runtime: up to 1.5 hours at 5.3K/30fps; up to 2.5 hours at 1080p/30fps.
