The Apple AirTag (2nd Generation) 4-Pack gives you four of Apple’s most capable item trackers — redesigned with an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, louder speaker and expanded Precision Finding range compared to the original AirTag — to attach to the things you most need to keep track of. Keys, bags, wallets, luggage, camera gear, a child’s backpack. Each AirTag works independently and simultaneously; all four are tracked in a single view inside the Find My app on iPhone or Apple Watch.
How AirTag finds your items operates at two scales. When an item is within Bluetooth proximity, the Find My app shows it on a map with its approximate location. When you are physically close to a lost item and your iPhone supports Precision Finding (iPhone 15 or later, excluding iPhone 16e; iPhone Air), the Apple-designed second-generation Ultra Wideband chip takes over — it combines UWB spatial awareness, the iPhone’s camera, ARKit, haptic feedback and audio cues to give you step-by-step directional guidance with distance readout, pointing you precisely toward the AirTag on screen in real time. The 2nd-generation UWB chip delivers up to 1.5× the Precision Finding range of the original AirTag, meaning you can lock on to the directional signal from farther away before needing to physically search. Precision Finding now also works on Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later with watchOS 26.2.1 — so you can locate items from your wrist without taking your phone out.
Beyond direct Bluetooth range, AirTag relies on the Find My network — the anonymous, encrypted, privacy-preserving mesh formed by hundreds of millions of Apple devices around the world. When a nearby Apple device detects your AirTag’s Bluetooth signal, it relays the AirTag’s encrypted location to iCloud, which then makes it visible only to you in the Find My app. The entire process is anonymous: the device that detected your AirTag does not know it did so, and cannot see your tag’s identity or your Apple Account information.
The 50% louder speaker (compared to 1st-generation AirTag) and new distinctive chime are the most immediately practical upgrade for everyday use: when an AirTag is physically close but hidden — under a sofa cushion, inside a bag pocket, in a jacket you can’t see — you can now hear it from twice as far, significantly reducing the physical search area. The chime tone is designed to be distinctive and immediately recognisable as an AirTag sound, making it easier to identify among ambient noise.
Sharing item location is a new capability in the 2nd generation: you can temporarily share access to a specific AirTag’s location with trusted contacts, family members, third parties, or over 50 airline partners when you check luggage. This means a family member can see where your shared bag is in the Find My app without full access to your account, and airlines can use the location data to help locate delayed or misdirected luggage without you having to describe or physically trace it.
Lost Mode activates NFC: if a stranger finds your item with the AirTag attached, they can tap it with any NFC-capable smartphone — iPhone or Android — and see a message you pre-composed with contact information, with no app download required. Your actual location is never shown and your Apple Account details are not visible.
IP67 dust and water resistance (1 metre, 30 minutes, IEC standard 60529) protects the AirTag from rain, sweat and accidental submersion. The user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery provides more than a year of use before needing replacement; your iPhone alerts you when the battery is low, and replacement takes seconds — twist the back cover open, swap the battery, done.
